In Loving Memory Of...

My poor bank account.

Two days ago I bought a ticket to a concert that I was hoping to attend this evening.

Yesterday I remembered that I had made very important dinner plans with my wonderful friend, Marie, who will be leaving town tomorrow. Goodbye $40.

This post is dedicated to the band I was supposed to be seeing tonight, The Swell Season.

I saw this band perform this past February at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, and it was one of the most pleasant concert experiences I have ever had. I was alone, drinking a glass of wine, and the band had encouraged the entire venue to sing along. I felt like I was a apart of the show.

The Swell Season is a band out of Dublin, Ireland, composed of Glen Hansard, Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová, and the supporting band, who were once called The Frames. They gained their popularity in 2006 with the movie/musical, Once- and independent film written and directed by John Carney. The film gained recognition when it won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Here is a video of one of my favorite songs by The Swell Season, When Your Mind's Made Up, being performed live two years ago in Paris. Every time I hear this band play together, I am blown away with how talented they are. The music is remarkably well composed, and Glen Hansard's voice is just incredible. Enjoy!
